Mercedes has told its 875 staff working in their Atlanta, Georgia headquarters that they will be working at home for at least the rest of the year. The HQ has been closed since mid-March but now it seems like that isn’t going to change anytime soon.
“Working remotely was the exception – for the foreseeable future, it will become the norm,” said Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Nicholas Speeks in an interview with Autonews last week.
The company spoke at length about the possibility of allowing most workers to work from home in the future being more efficient for the company, although admits some employees prefer working in an office environment. The company says they want their staff to use this opportunity to work on their “work-life” balance.
The interview continued on, “we still need to occasionally have some physical meetings in a post-COVID world. We also have to allow for the fact that some people like to come into the office.”
